A minivan carrying 14 members from a tiny Bronx church blew out a rear tire and crashed on the New York State Thruway Saturday, killing the church bishop, his wife and four others
A church Bishop for a Bronx church Simon White along with his wife Zelda and four other parishioners died after the minivan they were travelling in crashed on the New York State Thruway.
The deadly accident apparently occurred after the van rear tire apparently blew out near the Woodbury Commons Mall in Orange County and the vehicle, a 1997 Ford van, is said to have rolled several times.
The parishioners were said to be on their way to celebrate the second anniversary of an affiliated church upstate, the First Light Christian Assemblies Inc.
Some of the 14 persons on board who were from The Joy Fellowship Christian Assemblies church in Eastchester, were thrown out of the damaged vehicle as it hurtled toward the grassy median.
The other persons declared dead on the spot were Associate Pastor Titus Mc Ghie, Avril Murrray, Evelyn Fergusson and Elaine Reid sister of Pastor White.
The Pentecostal church a pentecostal has only 60 members, mostly of them Jamaican immigrants, was founded by White in 1998.
